Allegro Barbaro

$28.00 Including Sales Tax

Originally written for piano in 1911 by Béla Bartók, Allegro Barbaro is one of the composer’s most famous and frequently performed solo piano pieces. The composition utilizes folk elements, which is typical of the writing style of Bartók. The work combines Hungarian and Romanian scales; Hungarian peasant music is based on the pentatonic scale, while Romanian music is largely chromatic. The title of the piece was meant to poke fun at the critics of Bartók, who called him a ‘barbarian’. This arrangement for Percussion Ensemble by Jason Baker captures the original energy and character of Bartók’s intent.
