A Funky March for a Marionette
$40.00 Including Sales Tax
Program Notes
A Funky March for a Marionette was conceived in 2010 during the creation of a program for an indoor percussion season. Elements of Charles Gounod’s Funeral March of a Marionette were initially going to be incorporated into the show, titled Marionettes, in a less-pronounced manner. However, the syncopated main melody emerged early in the compositional process and established itself prominently as a key melodic component. After the completion of the season, the work continued to develop into a full rendition of Gounod’s original composition in this new style. At the time, finding large percussion ensembles that would accommodate a wide range of skill levels (as is often found in secondary level percussion sections) was a challenge. This arrangement was created to appropriately challenge higher skill level performers as well as musicians who are at earlier stages in their development.
Performance Notes
The marimba 1 and marimba 3 part can be performed on the same low F (or larger) marimba. Additionally, the Percussion 2, 3, and 4 parts are interchangeable with the drumset, or can be performed together to reinforce each other.
