Duets in the Ancient Style

Written in the traditional style of rope drums and rope drumming practices, this duet highlights standard drumming rudiments, roll integrations, and compositional practices of the late 19th-century and early 20th-century. The music is to be approached with a “traditional” performance style. All rolls should be played in open style (i.e. double strokes.) Ruffs and “diddles” should be played at a softer volume with a lighter touch than the primary rhythms. For the sections of improvisation, the musical ideas should have a jazz or swing character.
