Guide was written as a companion piece to Christopher Deane’s Prelude I for solo timpani. Scattered throughout Guide are small quotations, as well as original ideas that try to capture the spirit of Deane’s piece. Guide was commissioned by Matthew Geiger and the East Tennessee State University Percussion Studio, and is dedicated to the memory of my mentor and friend, Christopher Deane.
